We tried the notch apps already out there, and none of them were as useful as we wanted. We're Guillaume Castillo and Mitchell LeGrand, two students who use our MacBooks for everything: classes, assignments, late-night study sessions, and music playing the whole time.
They showed a song or a battery level, but not the things we actually needed during the day. So we built our own. The first version came together at the end of October 2026, with Now Playing, a file tray and a timer. Then we kept going: lyrics, Lock In for study sessions, a calendar, Mac Health. Six versions later, the notch is the most useful part of our screens.
We build DropNotch in public, test it on our own Macs every day, and fix what bugs us first.
