Privacy Policy
- The website only collects what you type into our forms: your email for the waitlist, and your name, email and message if you contact us.
- We use it to reply to you and to tell you about DropNotch. We never sell it.
- The website sets no cookies and runs no analytics or ads.
- The DropNotch app works on your Mac. It doesn't send your personal information to us.
Who we are
DropNotch is made by Guillaume Castillo and Mitchell LeGrand ("we", "us"). This policy explains how we handle personal information when you use our website and the DropNotch and DropNotch Float apps for macOS. We aim to follow the Australian Privacy Principles in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth).
What the website collects
Waitlist
If you join the waitlist we collect your email address. We use it to tell you about the DropNotch launch, pricing and updates. You can unsubscribe at any time by replying "unsubscribe" or emailing us.
Enquiries
If you send an enquiry we collect your name, email address, the topic you choose and your message. We use them only to reply to you and help with your request.
What we don't collect
The website doesn't use cookies, analytics, tracking pixels or advertising. We don't build profiles about visitors.
The DropNotch app
DropNotch runs on your Mac. Your calendar, reminders, music, files, notes, clipboard and camera stay on your Mac and are never sent to us.
- macOS permissions. macOS asks before DropNotch can use your Calendar, Reminders, Camera, Bluetooth, Desktop or Downloads folders, or control Music, Spotify or your browser. Each permission is used only for the feature that needs it, and you can turn it off in System Settings › Privacy & Security.
- Camera. The Mirror panel uses the camera only while that panel is open. Nothing is recorded or uploaded.
- Lyrics. To show lyrics, DropNotch sends the song title and artist to LRCLIB, a free lyrics service.
- Weather. To show weather, DropNotch sends the city you choose to Open-Meteo, a free weather service.
- Free trial and licence. DropNotch sends our licence server an anonymous ID for your Mac: a one-way scramble (hash) of its hardware ID, which can't be turned back into the original. It's used to start your 24-hour trial and to count how many Macs use a licence key. When you activate a key, we also store your Mac's name (for example "Mia's MacBook Air") so you can tell your Macs apart.
Buying DropNotch
Payments are handled by Stripe. Stripe collects your card details, email and billing country to process the payment; we never see your full card number. We receive your email address, the amount, and the date, so we can send your licence key and help if something goes wrong.
Third parties we use
These services help run the website. Some are based outside Australia, mainly in the United States, so your information may be stored or processed overseas.
- FormSubmit (formsubmit.co) delivers the waitlist and enquiry forms to our inbox.
- Google (Gmail) stores the emails we receive from the forms.
- Google Fonts serves the website's fonts. Your browser connects to Google to load them, which shares your IP address with Google.
- Cloudflare (cdnjs) serves the library that draws the 3D shape on the home page, which also shares your IP address.
- Stripe processes payments.
- Cloudflare runs our licence server, which stores licence keys, purchase emails, anonymous Mac IDs and trial start times.
- Resend sends the email with your licence key.
Each service has its own privacy policy. We only send them what's needed for the service to work.
How long we keep your data
We keep waitlist emails until launch and for as long as you stay subscribed. We keep enquiries for as long as we need them to help you, then delete them. We keep your information in password-protected accounts that only the DropNotch team can access.
Your rights
You can ask us to show you, correct or delete the personal information we hold about you, or to remove you from the waitlist. Email us and we'll respond as soon as we can. If you're unhappy with how we handled your information, please tell us first. You can also complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au.
Children
DropNotch isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their information. If you're under 18, please check with a parent or guardian before joining the waitlist or buying.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy we'll update the date at the top. If a change is significant, we'll tell waitlist members by email.
